On this task, we were required to explore various aspects of everyday
design. As creative media students, your task is to document and
communicate your experiences through a TikTok page and Creating the

page should serve as a cultural journal, where you record, reflect, and
creatively present your interactions, observations, and insights about
everyday design. The goal is to communicate your chosen cultural topics
to a broader audience, fostering understanding and appreciation of
everyday design through engaging short-form videos.
Requirements :
1. Create a Presentation Deck that Consist of :
· Introduction to your project
· 200 word rationale (that you did during Task 1)
· Summary of your data collection (more like a recap of things you did
during Task 2)

Fig 3.1 Sketches Attempts #1 Week 06 09/03/2025
Mr. Zeon gave us feedback on Friday, suggesting that we explore our
sketches further. Only the second sketch was approved, but he mentioned
that some modifications were needed. Jessie quickly refined the second
sketch and the hairpin design, as having only flowers would make the
design too plain. He advised us to incorporate more elements from the
research we did in Task 2. Check out the images below to see the
improvements we made to our sketches.

During week 6, we began gathering materials, finding physical objects and
purchasing them online on shopee. Below are the materials we documented:
1. Transparent phone case - To add a draw pattern on it
2. Acrylic paint - To paint on our phone case
3. Hairpin body - As a base to add element on it.
4. Clay - To make perfect hairpin body
5. Super light clay - To make the flower
6. Creamy glue - Decorate the border and combine with hairpin and
phone case
7. Clay Varnish - For topcoat
8. Necklace - For making tassels
9. Clay tool - To make the hairpin flower

Then, we divided the tasks. Yiming, Jiayue, and I were responsible for
molding the flower petals with clay, while Tracy and Jessie worked on
designing the patterns for the phone case. Lilin was in charge of painting
the background of the phone case.

Our next group meeting will be held from March 20 to 22, 2025. On March
20, we will meet to discuss solutions because we received feedback that
all the concepts need to be redone. Jessie plans to redo the painting of
the first phone case because she feels it doesn’t look very good. On the
20th, we will also review our sketches and try to make the hairpin design
more inspired by Cucuk Sanggul.

For the 1st hairpin, since the peony size is too bigger, we need to reduce
it by removing some petals, and they created a second flower which is Yellow
lotus.
For the second hairpin, we're using stone powder clay since we need the
result to be hard. We shape it using hand and utility knife for the motif.

Regarding on the tiktok name and profile, we named it "Nyonya Chic 21"
Since our theme is peranakan and minnan, but focusing more to peranakan.
All of the members were girls, which it means "Nyonya" in Peranakan.
Meanwhile "Chic" words means stylish, fashionable, and elegant. It's a
formal word from French to describes something that looks trendy,
sophisticated, and effortlessly cool. Last, "21" is our group number.
For the profile, Tracy used a simple and easily recognizable design. She
used an image of a beluga cat and decorated it with Cucuk Sanggul, kebaya,
and peony flowers because these are the main elements of our theme.

FEEDBACK
WEEK 6:
Since the materials we ordered did not arrive before Thursday, we
requested to postpone the consultation.
WEEK 7:
During the Friday morning consultation, sir gave us suggestions on
modifying our sketches. He hoped that we could create more than one
final product and present a greater variety of phone cases and hairpins.
He also praised our work on Project 1 and 2 and encouraged us to
maintain that quality for the final project.
REFLECTIONS
Experiences:
This module was a fun and rewarding experience, but it also came with
many challenges. At first, we were just a group of strangers, but as we
worked through each stage, from the initial project proposal to
developing our ideas and presenting the final results, we grew closer
and became good friends. The offline discussions, field trips, and
constant communication with my teammates made the process feel
meaningful. We faced quite a few difficulties, but we tackled them
together as a team. Our lecturer also gave us helpful feedback along the
way, which allowed us to improve. Over these seven weeks, I learned a
lot about Peranakan culture and the traditional flower hairpin craft
from southern China. It was a fascinating and eye-opening journey, and I
am truly thankful for my group members and Mr. Zeon for making this
experience so memorable.
Observations:
I observed that when designing a product, it is important to create
more than one sketch. Having multiple options gives more opportunities
for improvement and allows me to explore different possibilities.
Additionally, noticed that paying attention to details is crucial during
the making process, and it is important not to overlook the edges and
corners.
Findings:
I found that even though I know about many cultures, I had never taken the
time to deeply explore any of them. This project showed me how interesting
it can be to really understand a culture. I also found that during group
discussions, it is important to communicate more and encourage each other.
This helps us solve problems more effectively as a team.
