Lecture 4-Introduction to Photoshop3
(Adjustment Layer & Filters)

-Adjustment Layer
The Adjustment Layers in Photoshop are a group of a super useful, non-destructive image editing tools that add color and tonal adjustments to your image without permanently changing its pixels.

Fig 1.4.1 Adjustment Layer

·BRIGHTNESS / CONTRAST
Brightness / Contrast makes adjustments to the tonal range of our image.

·LEVEL
Levels modify the tonal values in an image by adjusting the levels of the shadows, midtones, and highlights.

·CURVES
Curves let us adjust as many points as us want throughout the entire tonal range of our image, and is the most powerful and precise tool for editing the tones in an image.

·EXPOSURE
Exposure lets us adjust exposure levels with three sliders: Exposure, Offset and Gamma.

·SELECTIVE COLOR
The Selective Color adjustment layer selectively modifies the amount of a primary color without modifying the other primary colors in our image.

-Filters
Using filters to edit photos is an essential element of Adobe’s graphics editor.

-Week 4
This week we need to use the same Photoshop file, improvise our WEEK 3 digital collage into WEEK 4 by using Adjustment Layers & Filters on Photoshop. And explain what we have learned in the description section.

This is my best composition of pen tool exercise:

Fig 2.4.1 best pen tool digital collage design

Description:

This digital collage represents people escaping the complexities of reality at night, attempting to reach a world without pressure by boarding a train, but it will always remain a dream.

Adjustment layers & filters:

Fig 2.4.2 digital collage design of adjustment layers & filters

Description:

Building upon the digital collage, I used curves to adjust the buildings to a pink color, enhancing the dreamlike atmosphere. I increased the saturation of the train and lowered the overall brightness. The white in the lower half was adjusted to a subtle grey that blends smoothly with the upper half. I gradually lowered the opacity of the steps people are walking on from bottom to top, highlighting the impossibility of reaching the desired, pressure-free life. Lastly, I added shadows to the people and the moon, emphasizing the harsh contrast between their real existence and the dream.
